Picture
I paint, sculpt and write the song of life as I experience it.

I believe narratives and symbols help define who we are and how we approach the world around us, and that throughout history stories (oral and visual) have been told lit by the sun, moon, fires and candles, creating extraordinary tales in space, time and the mind, full of shifting shapes, shadows, colors and movement for both the storyteller and the listener. I aim to capture elements of that narrative and symbolic richness in his art.

Even what may appear at first glance as abstract pieces are actually representations of the song of my life experience at the time that I created the piece, frequently as that song is played out in my head, frequently not consciously, from the sensations arriving in to me from the world around.  The song forms the essence of what I tap into for my art.

I believe strongly in the interactive nature between the artist/storyteller and the viewer/listener. Many of my sculptures reflect that philosophy. They are designed so that the person who has them participates in creating a unique work of art whenever they interact with them.

My tea sculptures, vases, candles and "vadles" (sculptures that shape shift from candle to vase and back at the desire of the person they live with) are a living co-creation between me and whoever has them.

A sculptural vase is an interactive work of art that changes with what and how the arrangement is that is in it at any one point in time, frequently local and seasonal plants, that also change with the time of day and the changes in light.

A tea sculpture gets created anew by the person sitting down for tea each time they sets the tea sculpture up in a new arrangement of its pieces to join with them and add a new dimension to their tea ceremony.

An "oracle bones" sculpture forms new patterns each time a person re-arranges the pieces, telling new stories each time.

A "vadle" sculpture transitions from a candle with its flicker light and shadows in one identity, to a vase with its botanical arrangement reflecting and conversing with those around it.

I live near Boston, MA, with a small green parrot.
